Mountain Biking in Chamonix
Chamonix attracts skiers, climbers and walkers from all over the globe. It is has become a haven for mountain bikers too. There are trails to suit all levels of ability but more experienced riders will, without doubt, get more out of the Chamonix valley, as the riding is often technical and steep.

The valley and the surrounding valleys are laced with great, well maintained tracks. In spring, the local councils send out teams to maintain and repair this vast network, ensuring they are cleared of debris and in optimum ridable condition for the summer.
The 15-mile long valley has six separate lift systems and boasts a rideable vertical range of over 2000 metres (see our route guides page). First lifts open 2nd week of June and close late September. There's also the year round 'bike friendly' Mont-Blanc Express train, which links Chamonix with Switzerland at one end and the Vallée de l'Arve at the other.
Mountain biking is possible for all ages, sizes and abilities. Energy, enthusiam and a mountain bike is all that is needed. If you do not have a bike, rent one from a store in Chamonix. More experienced riders may chose to wear body armour for technical and downhill riding.

Excursions
Trails on the valley floor
Chamonix is surrounded by many valleys that provide good mountain biking.

The valley of Vallorcine near Switzerland has a number of trails. The area of Megeve has a huge variety for all abilities.
From Chamonix, intrepid bikers can venture out on the Tour du Mt Blanc.
For the competitor, "The Grand Raid" is a fantastic MtB competition traversing 131km of the Swiss Alps from Verbier to Grimentz.
Although Chamonix is a narrow valley it has numerous trails that run its length from north to south. The area of Les Bois has many tracks for all levels of ability. The most common tracks are the Petit Balcon Nord and the Petit Balcon Sud.
All the cable car systems run in the summer so Chamonix has a lot of high alpine riding for keen riders who want something a little different. Col du Balme is a fantastic area with trails to Switzerland.
