Col du Belvedere

From the Col, looking north through west the views extend into the Bérard valley and further out over the Samoens valley. South lies the formidable Massif du Montt Blanc with famous peaks such as Les Grandes Jorasses and Le Dru. The Col du Belvedere is above the Flégère mid-station on the mountain range of Les Aiguilles Rouges. Although the Col is an easy ski tour, the descent is steep and for more advanced skiers.

After arriving at the top of the Index lift (the highest lift at Flégère), turn right and descend NW passing beneath the Crochues ridges. Continue on to the Lac Blanc chalet and then up to the Col.

The descent starts with a narrow 80m couloir at an angle of 40°. If the snow is unskiable a rope must be used to descend safely. The descent veers left down into the Bérard valley and continues on to the small mountain village of Le Buet at 1443m. From here, hitch back to Chamonix or take the train through the tunnel under the Col de Montets.
